#ctchat is a weekly professional learning experience that allows educators to collaborate through the use of the twitter social media platform. We are proud to provide FREE professional development documentation for these experiences.

  1. Register for membership to our site. (FREE)
  2. Go to twitter.
  3. Participate in the twitter chat by responding to the moderator questions and the thoughts of other participants.
  4. ALWAYS use the hashtag #ctchat so that your contributions can be seen and recorded.
  5. Rate this course in order to unlock the professional development documentation certificate.
  6. Print out the chat log or archive. Moderators sometimes create an archive of the chat through storify or some other curation program.

What's My Return Address? A Close Reading Strategy

This 2-hour professional development module is a dynamite close reading strategy that allows students to engage with informational texts, primary and secondary sources.  It will inspire students to be decision-makers as they develop unique thought and thesis statements.  They will engage with sources in new and thoughtful ways that will meet the higher cognitive demand of the Common Core Standards!  The course contains an instructional video, slideshow, supporting materials and an assignment.

Social Studies Instruction with Sherlock Holmes

This 2-hour professional development module allows history and social studies teachers to crystallize their planning by using quotes from the world's most famous detective as their guide.  Sherlock Holmes walks through 7 rules of effective planning and instruction as educators more effectively define what they want their students to know and what they should be able to do - as well as integrate effective instructional techniques and technology.

The course contains a slideshow, video, google form assignment document and supporting materials.

Social Studies can be SPECtacular: A Close Reading and Writing Strategy

This 2-hour professional learning module will allow English/ Language Arts and History/ Social Studies educators to engage with informational text utilizing a close reading strategy.  The module contains an instructional video, slideshow and an assignment that connects educators to a Common Core exemplar text as well as another source that showws different treatment of the same topic by different author and through a different medium.

There will also be a link to a forum where the conversation and collaboration can continue in order to make this strategy evlove to mee the needs of your classroom.

Creating a Top-Notch Online Mini-Course

This course will highlight the key elements of creating a mini-course on Teachers Train Teachers.  It contains a slideshow, an online survey to capture the key elements of creating and marketing a mini-course, a video explaining the key elements of creating a mini-course, and a supplementary powerpoint for download.

Participants will engage with the technical components of creating the mini-course as well as:, creating engaging course descriptions, embedding materials such as slideshows, videos, quizzes and surveys, marketing their course through the Professional Learning Networks, andpricing their course appropriately

This course meets the requirements of many educator effectiveness instruments; particularly in the domains and standards that reference professional learning, contributing to the profession and seeking out targeted professional development opportunities.
